A home boiler may last around 15 to 20 years. However, there are many factors that play a role in how longer your boiler will last, and as such, you should always be on the lookout for the signs that a boiler may give you as it approaches the end of its life. When you notice these signs, it may be time to start thinking about replacing your home boiler. Here are some of those signs.
Your Boiler Is Leaking
One of the signs that your boiler may be at or near the end of its life span is leaking. Repairs cannot be made if the housing unit of your boiler is leaking. As such, if you see cracks or notice water puddling around the base of your boiler, you need to replace it.
Your Boiler Is No Longer Reliable
Another sign that your boiler may be in need of boiler replacement is a boiler that is no longer reliable. If your boiler encounters a problem here or there, repairs can be completed to get your unit operational again. However, if you find your unit going out often, it may be time to replace it, instead of investing in more repairs.
Your Boiler Is Unevenly Heating Your Home
When a boiler is new, it works effectively and efficiently. Your boiler may have no problem heating your entire home evenly and consistently. But, as your boiler ages, it may start to lose some of that effectiveness, and you may start to notice some spots in your home are a lot warmer than other spots in your home, or you may even develop cold spots in your home. This is a tell-tale sign that your boiler is not able to keep up with your heating needs and likely needs to be replaced.
Your Energy Costs Are Increasing
Lastly, as your boiler ages, it may not be as energy efficient as it was when it was newer. It may need to run for longer periods of time to heat your home, and as a result, your home energy costs may increase as you run the boiler. If you notice a sharp increase in your energy costs, it is time to start thinking about boiler replacement.
If you notice one or more of the signs above, your boiler is likely telling you that it is approaching the end of its life span. This is a good time to think about replacing your boiler, as it gives you some time to research new models and hire a professional for new home boiler installation. Reach out to your heating and cooling company to have your boiler professionally inspected to find out for sure if it should be replaced.
